papeterie

A class of papers normally cut to size, boxed, and used for writing. Papeteries are produced from cotton fiber or chemical wood pulps, or mixtures thereof, and are given many special treatments, such as embossing, mottling, watermarking, aniline printing, and the like, to obtain desired colors and appearance. The majority of them have low strength, high bulk, and good folding qualities. They normally carry a considerable percentage of filler, in order to give them the required finish and opacity, and are sized to give satisfactory pen-and-ink writing qualities. Basis weights normally range from 16 to 32 pounds (17 X 22). (17 )
