made boards
Book boards consisting of two boards of unequal
thickness pasted together, the thinner board being
on the inside next to the book. Made boards are
useful when binding a large book, one requiring
boards that are thicker than normal. The
advantages of using two boards rather than one
very thick board are that the thinner board will
tend to cause the boards to curve towards the text
block rather than away from it, and the use of two
boards provides greater stability for them. (172 , 335 )
