18 1/2 karat gold leaf. Because of the alloys used
to reduce the gold from 24 to 18 1/2 karat, it is
lighter in color and somewhat thicker than the 23
or 23 1/2 karat leaf more commonly used in book
decoration, although not so much as PALE leaf. See also:
