1. A substance or mixture of substances added to an adhesive to promote or control the curing reaction by taking part in it. The term is also used to designate a substance used to increase the degree of hardness of the cured adhesive. See also: PLASTICIZER (1) . 2. A substance added to paints or varnishes to provide a harder finish. (309 )
