forel

A grade of PARCHMENT made from a split sheepskin and dressed in imitation of VELLUM .

It is not a strong skin and tends to be greasy, which causes difficulties in trying to make it adhere to the boards of a book. Also called "forrel-' and (rarely) "forril." (172 , 343 )
