1. A made-up text block, generally of blank
leaves, sewn and trimmed but not cased or covered
and meant to represent the bulk of a forthcoming
publication. 2. The layout of a forthcoming book,
including the actual arrangement of the printed
matter, specifications for type, illustrations,
etc. 3. A piece of leather or cloth mounted on a
board to show the exact size and lettering of a
