cessing
A technique used to allow excess tan liquor to
drain from hides and skins, particularly the
former. The hides are piled up flat on a wooden
stillage or pallet and covered to prevent
overdrying the surface and edges of the pile.
Cessing is also used in place ofHORSING UP when it is
necessary to have a flat leather with no creases.
