casing-in boards
Wooden boards cut square at the edge and lined on
one edge with a brass strip that extends beyond
one or both sides of the hoard about 1/8 inch. The
brass extension creates the joints of the book
during the CASING-IN operation.
Such boards are used when the book is cased by
hand and pressed in a standing- or hydraulic
press. TheBUILDING-IN
MACHINE has metal flanges at the edges of the
jaws which accomplish the same result. See also:
