A dye obtained from certain lichens of the genera
Roccella and Lecanora by means of fermentation.
Its hue varies from moderate red to dark
purplish-red, depending on whether the dye bath is
acid or alkaline. It was used in the past in the
manufacture of purple marbling color. It has only
moderate COLOR
