Florida
170 volunteers surveyed 1,101 outdoor sculptures in the Sunshine State. At the University of South Florida, you can visit an artwork that was made for its site by Nancy Holt called Solar Rotary. In a round plaza, eight aluminum poles 20 feet high rise from the ground and swirl inward to form a central ring, like the sun's orbit. At specific days and times during the year, the aluminum structure casts shadows on plaques in the plaza that commemorate events in Florida's history. In the center of the ring, there is a bench that marks the site where a meteorite fell millions of years ago.
