Miami

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was a minister and an important leader in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1960s. His life was shot and killed in 1968, dying as a martyr and symbol of racial equality, but his influence continues. John Andrew Smith's sculpture was unveiled in 1982 in Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial Park in honor of Dr. King's birthday. It was commissioned as part of a project to beautify the Linear Park vicinity. Target Stores covered costs to return this sculpture to "good health."
