Connecticut

Yankee Doodle went to town
A-riding on a pony
Stuck a feather in his hat
and called it macaroni….

The words to Connecticut’s state song Yankee Doodle were made up by British soldiers just before the American Revolution to make fun of the American soldiers. The term Yankee Doodle meant that the American soldiers were a bunch of country bumpkins. Later, when the Americans started winning the war, it was sung to make fun of the British soldiers.

The Constitution State is home to over 500 pieces of outdoor sculpture; over 200 are in need of conservation.
