Stephen Foster (Giuseppe Moretti 1900)
Did you know the song “Oh! Susannah” is over 150 years old? It, along with many other songs like “Camptown Races,” was written by songwriter Stephen Collins Foster many years before the Civil War. He was born in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania in 1826 and died in 1864. Although he didn't live very long, he wrote some of America's most famous songs. In this sculpture, he is shown listening to an African-American man because his music was heavily influenced by black folk melodies.
