Jamestown
Pocohantas (1906) by William Ordway Partridge
Daughter of the chief of the Powhatan Confederacy, Pocohantas was important in keeping
peace between the Native Americans and the English settlers who arrived at Jamestown in
1608. It is said that she saved the life of Captain John Smith, one of Jamestown's most
important settlers.
