Bolt of Lightning (Isamu Noguchi, 1984)
Isamu Noguchi's Bolt of Lightning was considered ultramodern when it was installed in 1984; however, Noguchi first designed the sculpture in 1933! The artist was partially inspired in his design by giant radio antennas although the sculpture itself is a tribute to Benjamin Franklin's famous experiment with lightning. The four wires you see attached to the sculpture are called guy wires and are there to keep the artwork standing tall.
