Correction/Update

An article called "The Ecologo and What it Means" that ran in the June issue had been written earlier, and was held so long that it was out of date by the time it was published.

Verification that a product meets the criteria in the Environmental Choice Program (ECP) guidelines is now done by the ECP, not the Canadian Standards Association (CSA); similarly, the ECP, not the CSA, shall be advised by the applicant of noncompliance.

CSA is no longer part of the ECP. They were replaced in July 1992 by CALIAN Communications System Ltd. (300 March Rd., Suite 205, Kanata, Ontario K2K 2E2, Canada, 613/592-8560). All informational material is sent out by the Environmental Choice office or by CALIAN, none by the CSA. The Environmental Choice Program is at 107 Sparks St., Suite 200, Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0H3 (613/952-9440, fax 952-9465). They can send the guidelines, a list of conforming products (including a two-page list of fine paper made from recycled paper and available in Canada), and other information.

There was a small error in the first paragraph: "ECP" was given as the acronym for Environmental Protection Act. If it had needed an acronym, it would have been EPA. Actually, no acronym was necessary because the Act was not referred to again in the article.

The Alkaline Paper Advocate is issued quarterly, starting with 1995, and has about 500 subscribers. Subscriptions (which include a free pH pen and a list of Useful Addresses) are on a calendar year basis: All start with the first issue of the year, unless otherwise requested, and end on Dec. 31, or after the last issue of the year has appeared. An index for the previous year is sent out in the first quarter. Individual subscriptions are $35; full-time students $20; institutions $45. All issues are in print and indexed. Checks should be made out to Abbey Publications, 7105 Geneva Dr., Austin, TX 78723. Visa/Master Card payments are most convenient for payments from abroad, but we prefer checks for domestic payments
