In May the Kingsport, Tennessee, mill of Mead Corporation completed its conversion to the alkaline process, about the same time its PCC plant, built by Minerals Technologies, started up. The PCC is used as filler and coating. The mill has been using carbonate from other sources since the early 1980s.
