- Elwood J. (Woody) Rice retired January 31 as group vice
president, paper technology group, Hercules Inc. He had joined the
firm 35 years ago, in 1957, not long after the invention of Aquapel,
and spent most of those 35 years in the paper chemicals field.
- Barbara Wortley recently retired as General Chemical's manager
of Pulp and Paper Technical Service; she continues her association
with the company as a technical consultant.
- Norman S. Peters, vatman for over 50 years at Hayle Mill in
Maidstone, Kent, died in January at the age of 80. He had retired
in 1982; the mill closed down in 1987. it is estimated that he made
a quarter million sheets by hand, which were sought by artists,
bookbinders and fine printers.
