Correction

In the May issue, third paragraph on p. 10, it is stated that a new set of papers is being tested in the presence of gaseous pollutants for the NISO Z39.48 committee that is working m paper permanence standards. New tests are being done, but not in the presence of gaseous pollutants.

Wanted: Canadian pH Pen Distributor

Free trade agreement or no free trade agreement, it is still hard to get shipments across the Canadian border. Everything still has to go through customs, where delays sometimes occur. The Canadian Post Office is very slow and may take up to six weeks to deliver a letter from the States to a Canadian customer. UPS is faster but not as fast as within the U.S.; it also charges a brokerage fee to the customer. Federal Express is faster but very expensive. The situation is further complicated by the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Since we sold over 3700 pens last year to 39 Canadian customers (mainly from the paper industry), and since many of the customers are in a hurry to receive their orders, this has been a problem for us. If we had a distributor within the country, many of these delays could be circumvented. We have approached Fisher Chemical and CPI (Corporate Promotions, Inc.), neither of which was more than lukewarm to the idea. We are open to suggestions and nominations.

The Alkaline Paper Advocate is issued six times a year and has about 500 subscribers. Subscriptions (which include a free pH pen) are m a calendar year basis: All start with the first issue of the year, unless otherwise requested, and end on Dec. 31, or after the last issue of the year has appeared. An index for the year is sent out in the first quarter, and interim indexes are available on request. Individual subscriptions, and uncomplicated subscriptions from institutions, are $30; full-time students $20; others $40. All issues are in print and indexed. No paid advertisements are accepted, except for job ads, but anything with news value will be printed if there is room for it. News items and information may be sent or called in at any time. Readers are encouraged to copy or circulate issues and parts of issues, and to reprint unsigned articles and news item; but the Editor's permission must be obtained for reprinting lengthy or signed articles.
