- Heinrich L. Baumgarten, head of Papiertectnische Stiftung (PTS,
or Paper Technology Foundation) in Munich, has been named one of 14
new TAPPI Fellows for his work in pulp and paper technology as a
researcher, educator, and statesman. He is the president of the
Paper and Board Standardization Committee in DIN (German Institute
of Standardization); president of the European Standardization
Committee (CEN) for Pulp, Paper and Board; and head of the German
delegation to the ISO committee that is working on standards for
paper permanence.
- William E. Scott, chairman of the Paper Science and Engineering
Department at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, has also been named
a TAPPI Fellow. He served on the TAPPI Board of Directors for the
last three years, and has chaired a number of committees and
technical programs. He is a member of the TAPPI Paper Permanence
Committee (Ad Hoc).
- James C. Abbott, who was a moving force in organizing the 1988
Paper Preservation Symposium, has been elected to the TAPPI Board of
Directors.
