Company News
- Pfizer Specialty Minerals now has 14 operational PCC
plants.
- Boise Cascade Corp. is seeking a buyer for its Vancouver mill,
which specializes in the production of carbonless paper, a grade the
company will not focus on in the future. It is the smallest of B-C's
ten mills.
- Performance Papers of Kalamazoo, Michigan, is now in Chapter 11
bankruptcy proceedings, and its owners are trying to sell the mill.
It was known earlier as the Allied Papers mill. Caught in the
squeeze between rising pulp prices and falling demand for
lightweight book papers, with its customers demanding alkaline
papers, it decided in the middle of 1989 to convert to alkaline
operations, a costly decision. It also switched to use of recycled
fibers, and demand was growing, but timing was bad and capital was
too hard to get. More information in the June American
Papermaker.
