Alkaline Coated Freesheet

Many people believe that all lightweight coated paper (LWC) has a groundwood base sheet, and there are even some who believe that all coated paper is acidic or groundwood. It is true that most LWC has a lot of mechanical pulp in the base sheet, but there are quite a few coated papers, 45 lb. and up, that have alkaline freesheet base papers.

All of the papers listed below are identified in the Fine Paper Directory as having a pH over 7.5 and containing no groundwood. The names of the papers are actually the names of whole lines or families of papers.
