Mill Conversions
- The Boise Cascade mill in Jackson, Alabama, converted February
20, making it the second B-C mill to convert to alkaline
papermaking. The first was Wallula, Washington. The two mills make
240 and 590 tons per day, respectively. Other B-C mills making fine
paper are in International Falls, MN; Rumford, ME; St. Helens, OR;
and Vancouver, WA.
- Willamette's mill in Hawesville, Kentucky converted December 5,
1989. It makes 500 tons per day of uncoated freesheet, much of it
computer forms.
- International Paper's Mobile mill converted to alkaline
papermaking on February 1, by one report, and January 9-11, by
another. Pfizer's onsite KC plant was in operation by October 1989.
This is a big mill--1000 tpd--but not the largest in the
country.
