Preservation Training for Archivists

The Society of American Archivists and the Society of Florida Archivists are co-sponsoring a one-day workshop "Elements of Preservation Management," on April 1, 1992, in Gainesville, Florida. Hilary Kaplan, Conservator for the Georgia Department of Archives and History will be the instructor. The registration fee for the workshop is $95.

This workshop fulfills the requirement for fundamental preservation training needed to apply for the SAA Preservation Management Training Program. This nationwide training program, funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities, is designed to create a critical mass of functioning archival preservation programs in the United States. Four series of workshops will be offered across the country between 1992 and 1994. Locations include the northeast, the southeast, the midwest and the west. Each series is composed of three six-day sequential workshops, linked by interim assignments. Enrollment for each series will be limited to fifteen participants. (The training program is scheduled to begin later in 1992.)

The Florida workshop will be the only SAA fundamental preservation training offered before the start of the SAA/NEH nationwide program. For more information about the Florida workshop contact Jane Kenamore SAA's Education Officer.
