Jiri Vnoucek, whose paper at the Budapest conference in September was reported on p. 120 in the November issue, sent a copy of his paper to the office, from which a more accurate report can be made. The Strahov library, where he works, has 130,000 volumes, not 350,000. He did not have to ask for time on the program-he was already on it, and his paper will be in the proceedings. The main emphasis of his paper was on the need for preservation, preventive care, and minimal intervention, rather than restoration. Restorers should be trained not only in restoration but in art history, keeping of archives and historical sciences; they should treat only endangered books; and they should "proceed very mindfully and deliberately."
