LIBRARY PRESERVATION ASSISTANT
Brooklyn Museum

This is a part-time position with flexible hours, 20 hours/ week, in the Art Reference library. Temporary.

Requirements: Excellent ability to organize a major preservation project requiring detailed reports and accurate typing skills. Willing to undertake occasional dusty, dirty work and lift heavy objects. Applicants must have completed or be in an apprenticeship with an experienced book conservator or a graduate of or student in a recognized preservation program. Experience in a library and with book repair is required.

Responsibilities: Incumbent is to implement and provide a focal point for the preservation program of the Museum Libraries and Archives. Specifically: manage contracts for preservation activities, maintain treatment records, evaluate and order supplies and equipment, consult with Museum conservation department and outside experts on proper preservation methods under the direct supervision of the Principal Librarian. Grant-funded one-year position.

BOOKBINDER

Requirements: Must be experienced in leather binding and restoration.

PRESERVATION ASSISTANT, HALF-TIME
New York Academy of Medicine

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Familiarity with preservation and conservation techniques for paper and book materials. Previous relevant experience in a library, archives, or conservation workshop. Working knowledge of one Romance and one Germanic language preferred. Typing skills and familiarity with automated systems desirable.

Duties: Work in Preservation Office of a large medical research library. Under the direction of the Preservation Administrator, assist with mending and other hands-on conservation activities for paper and book materials. Participate in condition surveys. Perform bibliographic searches for microfilmed materials. Support activities include, bet are not limited to: investigation of materials, equipment, and supply sources; maintenance of documentation files. Other tasks as assigned.

Salary: $7000 with excellent fringe benefits. EOE/AA

CONSERVATOR OF LIBRARY MATERIALS
Brown University

Duties: Responsible for managing the Library paper conservation facility, including repair and restoration of a wide range of paper-based materials; design and implement new techniques and select equipment; formulate conservation policies with Special Collections and make recommendations on Library conservation policies; provide training and supervision for student personnel.

Requirements: Extensive training on a graduate level or equivalent in paper conservation; 2 to 4 years' experience administering a library conservation operation preferred; knowledge of fine binding and paper conservation techniques; ability to communicate effectively.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
