Restaurator

The slim, expensive Restaurator has been for years the world's most important journal on conservation of library and archival materials. The articles are usually technical reports of original research, and often include contributions from outside America and Western Europe. Topics range from book lice to a method of sewing single pages into a book, and from the history of permanent paper to the consolidation of leather. Sometimes it is hard to read because some of the articles have been translated from Russian or other languages by someone who does not know English very well, and the editing, which is a big job with this type of material, has not always been done to completion; but this journal is a valuable, sometimes necessary, reference work for a book or paper conservator to have.

Not everyone can have a file of the back issues in their personal library, because of the expense. They can, however, read them in the library. The publisher, Munksgaard, has given permission to publish the list of 1980 institutional subscribers in this Newsletter, so that readers can find the library nearest them that has it.

There are about 250 subscribers, only 24 of which are individuals. The rest are public and private institutions as well as the "semi-private" ones which are open only to people of a certain class, e.g. employees or students.
