Ann Arbor Branch is Now Open for Business

The Abbey Newsletter is issued by the Academy Book Bindery, 3225 Central Dexter, Michigan 48130.

It is mailed free of charge to customers, amateur and professional bookbinders, and friends.

For years it has been our ambition to have an Ann Arbor location to be closer to our customers. For one year we did have a nook in David's Books at its old location, but we moved out when David migrated half a block a year ago.

Today we have the rooms adjacent to David's old place. Our new facility in Ann Arbor is located as follows:

DOWNSTAIRS AT 209 SOUTH STATE STREET (BETWEEN WASHINGTON AND LIBERTY).

We intend to equip our Ann Arbor location completely enough to let us bind certain types of books there from start to finish.

The Dexter shop will keep the same hours as before and will continue to be our main location, because it has more work and storage space as well as good loading facilities. A staff of five in Dexter (all, incidentally, commute from Ann Arbor) turns out 400-500 books a month.

The Ann Arbor shop will concentrate on thesis and soft cover binding at first. Currently it is staffed by one person and is open from 12:00 Noon to 6:00 P.M. Monday through Friday.

ANN ARBOR TELEPHONE NUMBER: 995-4000

Because it is so conveniently located, the new shop can serve as a pickup and delivery point for all types of work. To encourage customers to bring their books to us there (instead of calling for pickup or delivery), we are cutting back our deliveries to once a week and will soon raise the delivery fee. This will give us more man-hours for production and help assure customers faster, better service.
