Protecting tapestries in situ

In the spring we are going to have to protect several tapestries in situ during building work - internal alterations rather than the roof coming off. They are nailed to battens on the walls, and we don't have the time or resources to take them down and treat them properly. Does anyone have any experience of protecting hanging tapestries and if so what methods did they use?
