The North American Textile
Conservation Conference (NATCC) is pleased to announce the award of a grant
from the Getty Foundation, a program of the J. Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles,
to provide financial support for 45 textile conservators from South and Central
America to attend the fifth biennial NATCC meeting, “Recovering
the Past: The Conservation of Archaeological and Ethnographic Textiles,” November
9-11, 2005 in Mexico City, Mexico. The
grant will cover the costs of registration and round-trip, economy-class
airfare. “Recovering
the Past” will focus on the conservation, research, diffusion,
and exhibition of archaeological and ethnographic textiles. The conference is
co-sponsored by The NATCC meeting in The NATCC program is
designed so participants can learn both formally, through the papers and
posters presented, and informally, by discussions of papers in
question-and-answer sessions, meeting with poster presenters, and in
discussions with colleagues during breaks, lunches and tours. The conference size (about 200 - 250
participants) and specific focus on conservation of archaeological and
ethnographic textiles will also help to facilitate interchanges of ideas and
knowledge among the participants. Conservators
