Adhesives Today: exploring current adhesive options and application techniques for textile conservation.

The Canadian Conservation Institute and The Victoria & Albert Museum
in collaboration with The British Museum

Venue: The Victoria & Albert Museum and The British Museum

Based on the successful CCI adhesives workshops held in Ottawa, this London based workshop combining the expertise of three major institutions will explore current adhesive options and application techniques for textile conservation.   The five-day programme combines hands on sessions and demonstrations with informative lectures, discussions and participant talks on poly(vinyl acetate), acrylic and vinyl acetate/ethylene copolymer emulsions and carbohydrate based adhesives.

Topics include:
		·	Review of adhesive testing programmes at the CCI, V&A and BM
·	Recent case histories and ethical concerns
·	Factors determining choice
·	Preparation and application techniques for a wide range of adhesives including methods of cold lining and solvent re-activation
·	Reversibility and re-treatment issues and techniques
·	Demonstrations and the opportunity to use a wide range of equipment
·	Examination of previous adhesive treated textiles at both the V&A and BM

Registration:
Participants are expected to have practical experience in the conservation of textiles.  
Fee: £600 (fee will be reduced if pending sponsorship bids are successful).
Fee covers lunch, refreshments, materials and participant's manual with reference samples.
Deposit of £60 will be required by 20 December 2001 to secure a place.
