Deborah,
a very good alternative to the felt laminated Goretex is Sympatex. It is a moisture permeable material (don't know exactly what) that is backed with a thin layer of polyfelt.
I have used it for humidification and solvent reactivated adhesive treatments and think that it is a good and less expensive alternative to Goretex.
