National Heritage Board Singapore Textile Conservator (Contract - 2 Years)

The Heritage Conservation Centre (HCC) of the National Heritage
Board is looking for a Textile Conservator to work on an exciting
major new museum project due to open in 2002. The post will
involve intensive practical work on a large variety of textiles
representing various cultures of Asia including Chinese, Indian,
Malaysia, Indonesia etc. All practical work will be based in a
new, purpose built, spacious laboratory at HCC in Singapore.

Applicants should preferably possess a recognised qualification
in textile conservation and a minimum of two years' practical
studio experience preferably in a museum environment. The postholder
will be the sole textile conservator working on this project.
Assistance will be available from other conservation staff. An
assistant for this project may be recruited at a later date.

It is essential that the postholder has experience with a wide
range of textile conservation techniques to deal with costume,
flat textiles and textile accessories. Knowledge and experience
of different mounting methods for museum display is also required.
She/He must be able to organise tasks with the minimum of supervision
and work within tight deadlines. The post will concentrate on almost
purely practical conservation work with the objective of preparing
all textile artefacts required for display for the museum opening.

The post is a fixed two year contract, but periods up to two years
can be negotiated. It is hoped that the candidate will be able to
take up the post by the beginning of November 2000. Salary will be
commensurate with experience. An attractive package with benefits
such as housing allowance, air fare, relocation allowance and a
gratuity on completion of contract will be offered to the successful
candidate.
