[padg] NEDCC Names David Mathews as Director of Digital Services

David Mathews Joins NEDCC as Director of Digital Services

The Northeast Document Conservation Center is pleased to announce that
David Mathews will join its staff as Director of Digital Services on
November 3, 2008. With the knowledge and expertise Mr. Mathews brings
to the job, NEDCC plans to diversify the range and capacity of its
digitization services; to further develop its one-on-one digital
consulting capabilities; and to provide new training programs on
creating sustainable digital collections.

David Mathews previously held the position of Digital Imaging Studios
Manager at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, where he managed multiple
large-scale projects for publication, database development, and art
history scholarship. In addition, Mr. Mathews brings with him extensive
experience as an imaging photographer. He has been responsible for
publication photography, studio operations, and imaging workflow as well
as training image studio staff at the Museum. During his tenure as
photographer at the Harvard University Art Museums in the late 1990s, he
helped pioneer their transition from traditional film photography to
electronic media.

NEDCC's Imaging Department performs high-quality digitization of visual
materials and creates long-lasting inkjet prints. NEDCC Imaging
Technicians are experienced in the special handling of fragile cultural
materials, and they work closely with the Center's skilled conservators,
who can perform conservation treatment on materials that need
stabilization or repair before being digitized. Mr. Mathews will be
available to help clients plan and carry out new digitization projects,
and looks forward to working with the Field Service Office to develop
new customized digital education programs. To contact David Mathews,
e-mail dmathews@xxxxxxxxx, or call (978) 470-1010.

The Northeast Document Conservation Center is a nonprofit, regional
conservation center specializing in the preservation of paper-based
materials for libraries, archives, museums, and other
collections-holding institutions as well as private collectors. For
