The Division of Libraries at New York University (NYU) seeks a Conservation
Technician to perform a variety of conservation treatments, including cloth,
paper and leather bindings. Identify and document repair needs. Maintain
conservation treatment log, inventory of supplies and a clean work area.
Assist with special projects and handle conservation functions. Assist with
maintaining and updating a variety of files. Monitor environmental control
equipment. Photocopy, collate and fax materials. Pick up and deliver
materials, messages, books, etc. Report to the Conservation Librarian.

Qualifications: 1 year of book conservation experience, including knowledge
of current book and paper conservation techniques, preferably in an
institutional library setting. Proficiency using conservation equipment and
tools. A portfolio of completed treatment work is required at time of
interview. Preferred: Familiarity with automated library systems,
bibliographic citations and library experience.

The salary for the Conservation Technician position as of September 4, 2006
is $37,648. NYU offers a superior benefit package, which includes free
