[PADG:60] Recording Media DG Meeting and Scheduling Update

"New Programs for Audio Preservation"

The ALA PARS Recording Media Discussion Group meeting has moved to
Saturday, June 26 from 4-6 p.m., at the Peabody Plaza International
Ballroom F/G, in Orlando.

Our discussion will focus on new programs and activities on the audio
preservation frontier. Tom Clareson, Acting Chair of the Discussion
Group, will give an update on the work that has happened since the July
2003 "Sound Savings" meeting, sponsored by the Library of Congress and
the University of Texas at Austin. New information resources and
planned educational activities for 2004-05 will be highlighted.

Kate Contakos, Preservation Librarian at New York University, will
discuss the vision and initial activities of NYU's media preservation
program. Included in her presentation will be information on the
Library's audio preservation inventory project.

Charlie Kolb, Program Officer, Division of Preservation and Access,
National Endowment for the Humanities, will update the group on trends
in funding for audio preservation projects.

Discussion topics include information and education needs for audio
preservation; ALA programming on this topic, and outreach by the
Recording Media Discussion Group to other divisions of ALA and other
organizations interested in audio preservation.
