[PADG:2273] Re: sewn on endsheets?

Hi Jeanne - We sew on double endsheets with a cloth hinge as a matter of course here at IU. We've tried both sewn and glued, and started seeing some repeat business from volumes with glued endsheets. I've also seen some ugly damage in volumes where the outer leaves of the original text block remain with the new endsheets and the rest of the text block just carries away a few leaves in, leaving the book still in need of a recase, and with a torn title page or first signature to boot.

I would be interested in hearing from institutions who sew on endsheets for rebinds rather than gluing.
