Nielsen Bainbridge Conservation Science Fellowship at the Library of
Congress
The Library of Congress invites applications from interested scientists
for the Nielsen Bainbridge Conservation Science Fellowship at the
Library of Congress. The goal of the fellowship, located within the
Library's Preservation Directorate, Preservation Research and Testing
Division, is to conduct research into the effects of zeolites on the
long-term stability of library materials and to develop practical
library collection preservation applications for this technology. This
work has the potential to influence preservation strategies for paper
and photographic collections in cultural organizations.
The duration of the fellowship is 12 months, full-time. During this
period, the fellow will be compensated with a taxable stipend of
$35,000. Applicants must possess at least a master's degree in
chemistry or materials science. To apply, submit a cover letter
describing your interest in this opportunity, a resume that outlines
your experience, and the names of three references who can speak to your
qualifications (please include both phone and e-mail contact information
for references). All documents associated with applications should be
submitted electronically by May 15, 2004, to Eleanor Yuille (as
indicated below), for a start date no later than the fall of 2004.
For more information, contact Eleanor Yuille in the Office of the
Director for Preservation, Library of Congress, 101 Independence Avenue,
