[PADG:2207] ALA / PARS Recording & Photographic Media Discussion Group

PARS Recording & Photographic Media Discussion Group, Saturday, 2:00 in the US Horton E.

CLIR has recently conducted a study on the state of audio collection in libraries, the National Recorded Sound Board has created a register of historically significant recordings, and ARL has placed sound preservation on their strategic agenda. Building on all of this activity and interest, LC, the University of Texas at Austin, ARL, OCLC, and the National Recorded Sound Board held a conference last summer called Sound Savings: Preserving Audio Collections. It was a three-day symposium that brought together scholars, technical experts, librarians and archivists from across the country to learn about where the field is and where it is going. The final session focused on research and education and attempted to shape a series of 'next steps' that stakeholders could embrace and move forward. (These 'next steps' and the papers from the conference are available on the ARL website and will be published in print later this year.)

Mark Roosa will lead a discussion on the 'next steps'. The feedback that he hopes to obtain from members will help sharpen future actions.
