Job Summary:

Library Manager needed to oversee grant-funded project to preserve,
organize and describe the Herald-Leader still photographic negative
collection. Duties will involve project management (workflow planning,
budget, report writing), supervising student employees, archival
processing of photographic negatives, and creation and management of
descriptive tools (database, cataloging records and finding aid). The
Manager will develop RFPs and work with indexing vendor, order supplies
within budget, develop work plans, assure quality control, establish
procedures and standards, secure necessary resources, oversee all
administrative aspects of grant. In addition, they will have
responsibility to hire, train, evaluate and discipline student employees
in matching photographs to descriptive records, in rehousing
photographs, and in describing visual information, monitoring their
performance for quality, and implementing work plans. The Manager will
accession, arrange, organize, describe and preserve fragile archival
photographic negatives, analyzing condition of photographs and image
content, making decisions regarding deaccessioning duplicates and
maintaining handling, performance and descriptive standards. They will
also facilitate the digital conversion of hard copy indices and the
formation of an online database as well as developing descriptions of
archival photographs and generating archival finding aid and collection
level MARC record. 
   
Skills:  The successful applicant will have excellent planning,
organizing, problem solving, technical writing, communication skills.
They will have experience with delegation and supervision, exhibit an
attention to detail and a concern for quality control, and show a
familiarity with descriptive standards, some experience with cataloging,
EAD or archival description. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software
and database software is desired.   
 
Preferred Education/Experience:  Master of Library Science from an
ALA-accredited program or a Master of Arts or Science in a related
field; concrete experience with archival processing of photographs;
supervisory experience.
