[PADG:1978] job opening, University of Hawaii at Hilo, Head of Public Services



Librarian III or IV, Head, Public Service Division, Position No. 83792, University of Hawaii at Hilo, Edwin H. Mookini Library, full-time, tenure track, general funds, available June 2003, pending position clearance and availability of funds.  Duties:  Reporting to the Associate Director and serving as a member of the Library Leadership Group, responsible for the overall management, day-to-day operation, long range planning, and assessment of the following services: Reference, library instruction, library marketing/publicity, library environment, website content/design, distance learning support, Hawaiian Collection and Archives.  Duties include but not limited to: supervising Public Services personnel consisting of 3 librarians, 1 FTE support staff, student assistants, and volunteers; serving on the reference desk, including evenings and weekends, and on Library and University committees; performing assigned collection development responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications:  !
Librarian III or IV: ALA accredited MLS or international equivalent.
Librarian III: 24 post-baccalaureate credits; 3 years of experience in public services in a college or university library.  Librarian IV: 2nd masters degree in subject area; 7 years of public services experience in a college or university library. Desirable qualifications:  Evidence of appropriate and progressively increasing supervisory or management experience in academic public services, including implementing effective user services initiatives; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with colleagues, mentor staff, and resolve personnel issues.  Experience in bibliographic instruction; with writing library promotional literature and creating student resource materials; with providing electronic reference assistance.  Knowledge of best practices and current trends in the provision of excellent library public services; ADA regulations related to patron access; teaching methods and instructional design for information!
 literacy.  Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and colleagues in a multicultural environment.  Experience with grant writing; fundraising; developing and assessing academic public services through performance measures focused on student outcomes. Pay Range: Librarian III: $38,184 - $56,520; Librarian IV:  $ 46,452 ? $68,760.
