Recent changes to the NEH grant application guidelines allow preservation 
administrators to apply a variety of preservation strategies to collections 
within a single grant.  As we leave the era of strict brittle books 
microfilming projects, what are the elements of a good grant?  Charles Kolb 
and Barbara Paulson from the NEH will discuss the new grant guidelines, 
strategies for writing effective grants, and give us an update on current 
funding and other NEH news.  There will be significant time for

Heritage Preservation in Cooperation with IMLS and with major funding from 
the Getty Grant Program is currently developing an extensive survey that 
for the first time will document the condition and needs of U.S. artistic, 
historic, and scientific collections held by archives, historical 
societies, libraries, museums, and research collections.  Dr. Nadine 
Gardner, Assistant Director for Libraries and Archives for Heritage 
Preservation, will give us an update on the development of this significant

Robin Dale, Program Officer for RLG will give us an update on RLG news and 
report on RLG's digital initiatives.

Mark Roosa, Director for Preservation for the Library of Congress, will 
report on preservation work at LC and give us an update on the National 
Audio-Visual Conservation Center at Culpepper, Virginia.

Tom Clareson, Manager of the Digital and Preservation Cooperative, OCLC 
Online Computer Library Center, will give us a report on OCLC digital services.
