[PADG:1795] non-paper media

Good afternoon,

Though this group has discussed the topic of non-paper media in the past, I
am looking for an up to the minute review of the current situation and would
appreciate your help.  I know that attention was focused on strategies for
preserving and accessing these materials at the March 2002 joint
ARL/University of Michigan conference and am hoping that some new policies
and procedures have been written regarding these materials which we can
share amongst ourselves.

Specifically, I am looking for documentation pertaining to the care and
handling of non-paper media, such as CD's, 3.5 inch floppy disks, audio
cassettes, VHS tapes and DVD's.  Does your library keep these materials
behind the circulation desk?  Or do you perhaps place them in the stacks?
Are they sitting in their individual jewel cases or do you use some sort of
outer security case, perhaps manufactured by Demco or Gaylord?  Does each
format get specific treatments or are your policies across the board? If you
changed your policy recently, how did you evaluate the new care and handling
procedures? 

Also, on a related note, were any new/different policies promulgated by the
Preservation department?  Did all the staff get on board with the new
policies immediately or was there a certain level of resistence?
