I will not be able to attend PADG, so I'd like to comment here.

The focus of "Public Education" on preserving primary source documents is 
important, but there are other aspects of public education that are equally 
important.  I would like see the policy address more explicity the need to 
educate the public that the magnitude of the preservation problem forces 
selection for preservation (which is true for both primary source materials 
and general collections).  I would like to see ALA consider how a dialogue 
with citizens (both scholars and the general public) that would give them a 
voice in setting priorities and directions for preservation might help to 
shape a national preservation program that is responsive to the public's 
concerns.
