CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO SUPPORT ALISE/IFLA EDUCATOR FELLOWSHIPS

At the IFLA Congress in Boston, Mass., August 16-25,2001, the U.S.
Organizing Committee is committed to sponsoring many librarians from
developing countries to the Congress.
ALISE is hoping to sponsor three Educator Fellows at $3000 each as their
contribution in this effort. ALISE is one of the sponsoring associations
of the U.S. Organizing Committee.

Due to ALISE's small budget, the ALISE Board proposed that the
International Relations Committee supported by past-president, Shirley
Fitzgibbons, and ALISE representative to the IFLA/U.S. Organizing
Committee, Evelyn Daniel conduct a fund-raising effort to raise the $9000.
An anonymous donor has contributed $3000 if we are able to raise the
matching monies.

We are asking each of our institutional members, our School members, to
contribute a minimum of $100 to this excellent project. Whether the School
wishes to contribute from institutional funds or raises the monies from
individual faculty contributions depends on their structure and wishes.
Many schools have a major interest in international concerns including
education for library and information studies. Certain faculty have been
especially involved in IFLA and other international associations and
projects.

We will promote an Honor Roll of Donors for this project through promotion
at an ALISE booth at the IFLA Congress, on the ALISE web site, and other
appropriate places. The Honor Roll may include both Schools and
individuals.

We would also ask that individual faculty at the schools promote the
project with their colleagues in developing countries. The information
for prospective fellowship recipients can be found on the IFLA 2001
Congress website at: http://www.ifla.org/IV/ifla67 or can be requested at
the IFLA conference secretariat, Congrex Holland BV. The application form
and
curriculum vita should be sent as soon as possible and no later than March
1, 2001 to IFLA,
c/o ALA, International Relations Office, 50 E. Huron Street, Chicago, IL
60611, USA (FAX:
+1 312 280 3256 and email: intl@xxxxxxxx)

Deadline for schools and individuals to be included in the Honor Roll is
March 1,2001. Letters of intent should be sent to both Shirley Fitzgibbons
(fitzgibb@xxxxxxxxxxx) and Rand Price (ALISE Executor Director, Drohan
Management (RandsWork@xxxxxxx). Monies should be sent only to Rand Price
(11250 Roger Bacon Drive, Suite 8, Reston, VA 20190-4202).

An immediate response concerning "intent to contribute" would be greatly
appreciated in order to make preparations for the solitication and
selection of the Educator Fellows!

IFLA's Section on Education and Training will be meeting at the Congress
and it will be proposed that the ALISE/IFLA Fellows will be hosted by them
and other U.S. ALISE members
at the August Congress. Also Honor Roll Donors will be invited to
contribute their school's
promotional materials at the IFLA booth and where your names will be
listed.

Questions and concerns can be directed to Shirley Fitzgibbons
(fitzgibb@xxxxxxxxxxx).
