LC Natl Digital Library Program Announces Release of Collections

The Library of Congress National Digital Library Program announces the release
of two collections.  The first release of the African American Odyssey
Collection and the second release of A Century of Lawmaking for a New Nation.

On September 15, the African American Odyssey collection was released. Based
on the Library of Congress exhibition, -The African American Odyssey,- the
collection includes more than 240 items, including books, government
documents, manuscripts, maps, musical scores, plays, films, and recordings. 
This is the first of several African American collections that will be
released in the next few years.

On Constitution Day, September 17, the second release of -A Century of
Lawmaking for a New Nation, U.S. Congressional Documents and Debates:
1774-1873.- added the full text and corresponding page images for the Journals
of the Continental Congress, Elliot?s Debates, and Farrand?s Records.  The
collection to date includes a total of 49 volumes (now totalling 23,900
images) covering the years 1774-1793.  This release also adds a browse feature
for the Annals of Congress volumes that are page images without full text. 
Browsing the page images can help users find vocabulary appropriate for
searching these early congressional materials.  A section of explanatory
information entitled - Digitizing the Collection - may be of special interest.
 It includes a discussion of: selection, materials handling, quality
assurance, and image and text creation.
