Cornell University's Albert R. Mann Library is seeking a dynamic and
creative librarian to manage the library's Collection Development Division.
Mann Library's collection of agricultural, life sciences, and related
social sciences materials serves the College of Agricultural & Life
Sciences, the College of Human Ecology, and the Divisions of Biological &
Nutritional Sciences at Cornell.  Committed to providing innovative
information services for the 21st century, the Library is considered to be
the premier agricultural and life sciences library within an academic
institution in the United States.  The library has received recognition for
its ground-breaking collection development efforts, its preservation
program, and its innovative use of staff.  Our principal user population
numbers almost 10,000 and includes undergraduates, graduate students,
faculty, researchers, extension personnel, and staff.  Mann holds almost
one million items in its collection of print, microform, and digital
materials.  We operate an extensive digital library at
<http://www.mannlib.cornell.edu>.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides leadership to an energetic staff of 10 fte plus
student assistants and administers the functions related to selection,
policy formulation, collection evaluation, gifts & exchange, faculty
liaison, preservation and conservation activities for Mann Library and the
Entomology Library.  Allocates and monitors endowment funds and an
acquisitions budget of over $1,400,000.  Plays a pivotal role in securing
grant support for preservation, conservation and cooperative collection
development activities and plays a leadership role in national programs
related to preservation and coordinated collection development.
Continuously cultivates support for the library through membership on
groups such as the Mann Library Faculty Committee and the faculty liaison
program.  The Head of Collection Development, who reports to the Director
of Mann Library, is an important member of the library's Administrative
Council and represents the library in local, regional, and national
collection development groups.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 3 years of successful administrative responsibility
for collection development and management.  Demonstrated experience working
with faculty in the collection development process.  Knowledge of national
and international trends and issues in academic library collection
development and preservation, including digital resources and services.
Demonstrated organizational ability, communication and interpersonal
skills, imagination, creativity, and passion for collection development.
Ability to motivate and coordinate work within a collegial framework.  MLS
or equivalent required and a second advanced degree in agriculture, life
sciences or a related social sciences discipline preferred.
