mounting parchment
To follow up on John Dean's suggestions for mounting parchment -
Volume 16 (1992) of The Paper Conservator is devoted to parchment and
includes an article by Hanna Szczepanowska on "The Conservation of 14th
Century Parchment Documents with Pendant Seals." It has a diagram
showing a type of restraining string mat with a recessed opening for
the seal. I too think this preferable to encapsulation.
