About the list

The following notice appeared at http://www.charvolant.org/~ozcons/

Finish

OzCons is now officially dead, as of 03-Apr-05. The last message was in 2003 and it serves no other purpose than to serve as a target for spam. The archives will be maintained, since some people occasionally are directed to them by search engines.

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Charter

The Australian Conservation Mailing List (OzCons) is a list for those interested in the conservation and preservation of cultural material, particularly within Australia.

Ozcons initially started off as a mailing list focussed on research issues, but is now expanding to become a more general mailing list for the Australian conservation profession, including the professional body AICCM (Australian Institute for the Conservation of Cultural Material). While it will still function as a discussion site for research issues it will also carry news of events, talks and jobs within Australia.

Conservation in Australia suffers from a scattered profession and difficulties in finding local sources of information and materials. OzCons' primary purpose is to provide a local forum for the exchange of information and resources, both within the conservation profession and with professionals from allied research fields. Students are especially welcome. Ozcons is an easygoing list intended to cater both for Discussions of Large Questions of National Importance, and for "Hey Look What I Found in the Fumehood" and "the quick tests wot we did in six lunchboxes in the window" - useful information that might otherwise never get beyond the lab of its birth because a) it wasn't earth-shattering and b) nobody got around to writing it up.

OzCons is concerned with the conservation of cultural material and is only peripherally connected to the wider environment; apologies to anyone who was expecting a mailing list devoted to ecological issues.
