[frameconnews] Re: Museum Glass

Listers:

Another word of caution. UV filtering glass filters out the most harmful
wavelengths of light but by no means eliminates light damage. The
visible spectrum of light will also cause damage too just not as quickly
as the UV component. I feel it is important to caution clients that UV
filters are not a magic bullet - they should still take care to limit the
light exposure to light-sensitive items.

Have any of you provided protection agains UV by applying any of the UV
absorbing films (e.g., 3M)> to framing glass? In addition to offering
protection from UV the film also provides impact protection (i.e., a
number were developed for commercial applications were "smash & grab"
theft was an issue).
